Dear Parents and Families, This week you will get a note about composting and feeding our worms. Mrs. Major and I felt that it would be a good experience for the students to develop more composting in class. We contacted a local business, Arizona Worm Farm, and they donated worms and a bin to our classroom. This is very exciting! Students will get a chance to harvest rich soil in class. Once the soil is ready we are going to use that on our vegetables outside and we are going to pot some classroom plants for each table. Students are really enjoying learning and working with plants. In other news, I want to thank Charlie Wolfson and Liam Tracy's family for donating picture money for each and every student. This means we get an individual and a classroom picture. Does anyone scrapbook or would anyone help make a memory book for our classroom for the end of the year. I think it would be nice to capture these neat moments. Please let me know if you are interested or could help. Scholastic books has been postponed due to ordering guidelines. Because both orders were being submitted in the same month we weren't getting new deals as teachers. I am going to place the order next Monday. So, if you are interested in ordering books there's still time!
Our week of learning: Reading: Students will continue their learning into themes, messages, or morals of the stories. We will practice reading skills such as predicting and summarize as we look for the theme. Math: We are still looking at the relationship between multiplication and division and practicing math multiplication fluency. Please have students use Xtramath at home for extra math practice. Language Arts: In writing this week, we are finishing the writing of should you squish an ant or let it be. This is from the book, Hey, Little Ant. In spelling, we are looking at words that have the long e sound but do not fall into regular spelling patterns such as pizza. Science: As you heard above, we are focusing on composting and growing in science. Students learned about the proper things to compost. Social Studies: This week we are completing cultural projects and we are reflecting on the completion of the first unit. We are now discussing the new until on structures. As always, if you have any questions about what we are learning please email me. Thanks and have a great week.
