This will be our fourth week of school and we will be taking a district math test to see how students are retaining the first 3 chapters in our math books. Students should be able to identify place value, round numbers, and add and subtract numbers with regrouping. We will let you know how this assessment goes by the end of the week. This week is also the beginning of our DIGGS lessons. Students will be planting a salsa garden. We will be growing peppers, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and garlic. Also, this Friday is our last day to order books from Scholastic Books. This is a great opportunity to get books that your child is interested in reading. Here is what we are learning this week.
Learning this week:
Writing: Students will be looking at the different parts of speech and be able to tell a words function in a sentence.
Reading: Students will be asking and answering questions as they read non-fiction stories this week. We will continue to sequence stories and build reading stamina in learning stations. Students will be in reading groups this week.
Math: Students will be regrouping to solve three and four digit subtraction problems. Students will also be reviewing for district math CPA.
Science: Students will be continuing their exploration into the property of sound and vibrations. Students will be able to tell and create high and low pitch sounds with a given instrument.
Social Studies: Students are comparing ancient civilizations with our own cultures. We are looking at what we have learned and continue to use from civilizations from the past.
