________________________Meet Mrs. Abel___________________________ Background: I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ with my grandparents. My grandmother was a kindergarten teacher at my elementary school. I spent many afternoons helping her in her class. Education: I went to the teacher college at University of Arizona for my undergraduate studies. I obtained a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education where I focused my studies on Early Childhood. In 2005, I got a Masters degree in Elementary Education with a focus on reading intervention. I am endorsed as a reading specialist, early childhood instructor, and English as a Second Language instructor. I am certified to teach Elementary Education Kindergarten through 8. I enjoy learning and continue learning with various professional development courses including Kagan Cooperative Learning and Thinking Maps Training. Experience: I have been teaching since 2000 (18 years). I have taught kindergarten, second, and fourth grade. This will be my first year in third grade. Family: My husband John and I have been married for 9 years. I have a step-son in the navy named Kyle. We have three dogs named Bella, Taquito, and Barley, two birds named Verde and Ibanez, and one cat named Puddles. Outside of School Interest: I am an avid outdoor woman. I love camping, hiking, canyoneering, and kayaking. I enjoy volunteering for clean ups, trail maintenance and other preservation projects. I also enjoy coffee, chocolate, and books in my past time (preferably all at once).
